Bristol GCSE results improve – bucking national trend

What a great day! Started at 8am with a gentle cycle across to the Radio Bristol studios on Whiteladies Road to talk about Bristol's excellent GCSE results. Listen again at 1:35 http://bbc.in/PLkjwk for next 7 days. I took a lead as Clare Campion-Smith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, and Simon Cook, Leader of Bristol City Council, are both on leave.

I then cycled down to the Park and Ride bus service along Portway, getting off at Sea Mills to visit one of my old patients for a welcome cup of tea. Thank you Peter! Then cycled on past Shirehampton Golf Course to meet the star team at Oasis Brightstowe Academy – their results had jumped from a disappointing 30% last year to a magnificent 63% this year! More than doubling!

The principal Matthew Butler and his team were beaming, waiting for the students to arrive.

And this is on their wall at the entrance…

Off to Queens Square now, so will catch up on rest of yesterday (and today!) later.

Have a good one!
